Gaudeamus Quartet

The Chords Quartet "Gaudeamus" was organized in 1987 under the guidance of maestro Dan Prelipcean, a member of the famous quartet "Voces". The quartet appeared for the first time in Brasov, at the Chamber Music Festival, in the Interpretation Contest for student quartets (19th edition, 1988), when it was awarded the 1st prize. The repertoire of the quartet is impressive, including more than 150 pieces from the work of Enescu, Jora, Negrea, Bentoiu, Spatarelu, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Brahms, Grieg, Smetana, Ravel, Debussy, Bartok, Sostakovici. The Quartet toured in the big cities of Romania, but also in Russia, the Republic of Moldavia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, U.K., Russia, Spain, Turkey, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Poland.

Virtuosity courses

The artists of the Quartet improved their skills at virtuosity courses taken in the U.K. with Hugh Maguire (first violinist of "Allegri" Quartet) and with "Alban Berg" Quartet, with Walter Levin (the first violinist of "La Salle" Quartet) in Salzburg, with "Amadeus" Quartet and with Milan Skampa (a member of "Smetana" Quartet) in London. "Gaudeamus" was invited as a "residence quartet" to have concerts at the Jubilee Hali from Aldenburg, in the U.K. in the period 1997-1998.
