Extraordinary nocturnal anniversary concert

The season of summer organ concerts at the Black Church offers at its current edition to the Brasov people and tourists 36 concerts that have already started since June 5th and will continue until September 25th. This is the longest series of concerts in Romania. An extraordinary nocturnal anniversary concert will be organized in the Old City Hall Square (Piata Sfatului) on August 4th celelbrating 60 years since the debut of the Black Church concerts and will emphasize organ music and very old music played at several instruments.
International participation
"Ever since 1953 when tourists coming to the Black Church asked for the organ to be put into function and until this moment, there have always been concerts. We are coming with a rich cultural offer just at the right time when many cultural institutions are on vacation. The event includes a diversified schedule. 12 of 36 concerts will be performed by artists from Romania, USA, Denmark, Austria, Germany, including 24 organ players from the Black Church and Bartolomeu Church. Last year the average number of tourists who assisted to our concerts was 180 per concert and we wish that they grow in number," said Mr. Steffen Schlandt, organ player at the Black Church. The entrance ticket to concerts is 8 Lei of which 4 Lei will go to the fund for the restoration of Saxon church organs.
Temporary exhibition
Also during this summer, June 5th ? October 30th, the visitors of the Black Church will have the chance to admire a temporary exhibition dedicated to the project for the restoration of a carpet of the Parish's collection, that was successfully completed last year in 2011 at the Islamic Art Museum from Berlin, exhibition which is now found in the room beneath the South-Eastern tower. Besides this carpet text, photo panels will be installed illustrating the history of the carpet collection from inside the Black Church, said Mrs. Agnes Ziegler, art preserver.
Tours on unique themes
As a novelty of this year, the staff of Brasov Parish of the Evangelical Church will offer to the visitors of the Black Church tours on unique themes, during June 6th ? September 26th, such as the Stalls and the sitting order in the Black Church, the Bucholz Organ, the Ottoman carpets, the Tower, the bells and the roof structure, the Black Church as an ecclesiastic Evangelical Lutheran place, the history of the church?s reconstruction after the great fire.
