Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Codlea

On the occasion of Christmas and New Year’s Eve holidays, the Cultural Centre of Codlea organizes a series of events marking both the Birth of Jesus Christ and the passing of the old year. At the same time, on December 1rst, on the occasion of the National Day of Romania, special programs are organized here including: street lighting, installation of the Christmas tree, creation of a group of statues by sculptor Petrica Buhnici who is also the Manager of the Cultural Centre of Codlea, the outdoor nativity scene by artist craftsman Nicolae Diaconu. The scene will be placed under the naturally grown tree right next to the old city’s fortress walls.
The show dedicated to the National Day of Romania, on December 1rst, called "Let’s all do the round dance!", will take place both on the Promenade, in the Historical Centre and on the stage of the Cultural Centre of Codlea.

A Festival of Carols

The Festival of Carols, now at its third edition, is organized in partnership with Association "ProCodlea". 20 church choirs of different confessions, as well as other choirs have enlisted until now to celebrate the happiest moment - the Birth of Lord Jesus.
"Besides the choir of the Cultural House of Codlea there are also other mixed choirs of different religious confessions, among which three are Orthodox, and choirs of local elementary school children," said Petrica Buhnici, Manager of the Cultural Centre of Codlea.

Santa Claus Shows

Around winter holidays a Christmas tree shall be adorned in the Cultural Centre and all local pre-school and elementary school education institutions of different ethnic groups shall organize shows, each presenting its own Santa Clause moment. Everybody participates since there is no entrance fee, and the children have the chance to come up with unique shows and sketches.

The New Year’s Eve Party

On the occasion of the New Year’s Eve all locals are invited on the Promenade to drink a glass of champagne and watch the fireworks show, celebrating the passing of the old year and coming of the new one. Ever since the rehabilitation of the Historical Centre, this is the fifth consecutive year that the New Year’s Eve party has been organized in this location with the help of the Town Hall and the Local Council of Codlea.
Another event worth being mentioned takes place on December 2nd when the folk group "Magura Codlei" participates in the Festival called the Lads’ Dance (in Romanian Ceata de Feciori) organized in Brasov.
