The Equestrian Festival, Rasnov 2011

The Town Hall Rasnov, the County Council Brasov and Foundation UMANA organized the Equestrian Festival, Rasnov 2011, the 9th edition. This event gathered many tourists from the country and abroad. The location Acapulco, situated closely to Rasnov Citadel, on the road connecting the town to Poiana Brasov, has become small for those willing to participate in this unique national festival, dedicated to horse's beauty and greatness. The program of the festival included a parade of the carriages from those times, manege demonstrations, steeplechase, stunts, presentation of horse breeds, horse beauty and force contest. The winners were rewarded prizes and diplomas.
The Romanian horse breeds in the spotlight
In the location specially arranged for the competition, the owners of horses performed an exceptional show which thrilled the audience. Among the breeds entered into competition we mention “Lipitan”, “Hutul”, “Friza”, heavy Romanian traction horse, to which we add “Andaluz”, ponies, Arabian blood horses, etc.
Mr. Constantin Ducar presented the equitation competition, made appreciations concerning the horse breeds and their origin: “Many horses derive from the stud farms in the county of Brasov, and others from the equitation centres from either Bucharest or Cluj. This year we would like to mention the remarkable presence of one of the best stuntwomen from Europe, Luminita Dumitrascu, who (and this must be mentioned) is trained by Nelu Secheli, Ms. Maria Basescu's equitation coach. The contest attracts several tourists. It has already become traditional and every year it improves in terms of quality”.
Traction show
"Besides the show offered by the steeplechase and stunts moments, the traction competition made the most of strong animals: pulling the 1000 kg log by one horse and pulling the log by two horses, the weigh being 2500 kg. The horses entered in this competition are used for heavy works, such as pulling the logs from the woods. The decision upon the winners was taken depending on the distance taken by the horses when pulling the log.” declared Adrian Vestea, the Mayor of town Rasnov.
We mention that the winners for this section were: Ovidiu Adamut, for two (with horses Cazan and Viclu), and Fanel Busuioc, Stelu's owner, the awarding festivity being hosted by Mayor Adrian Vestea.
High-level program
Vasile Ungureanu, County councillor, wanted to mention that this year edition was really successful and attracted tourists from all over Romania and from abroad, horse races' lovers. The audience enjoyed good weather, a high-level equitation program, traditional cookery, and a great show. The organizers already prepare the 10th edition from 2012, when there will be a jubilee year of the festival.
