The Jewish Community of Brasov celebrated Purim Holiday at the Synagogue from Brasov, in the presence of many guests of honour. The first visit in Brasov of the Ambassador of Israel to Romania, His Excellency Mr. Dan Ben Eliezer, and his wife, marked the event. The guests included representatives of urban cults, politicians from the entire political spectrum, the Head of the Opera House of Brasov, Mr. Cristian Maihailescu and his wife, soprano Felicia Filip, representatives of the Jewish community and the media.
The History of Purim
The history of Purim, as well as its specific customs, make a moment of joy from this holiday for all the Jews. Certain traditional cultural and artistic events were dedicated to this holiday.
"The Chronicles of Estera are read on the occasion of Purim. This is the only holiday symbolizing joy, exuberance. On this occasion, we are trying to offer you an artistic show, with historical characters, as a reference to the history of the Jewish exile and the diaspora," said Mr. Roth Tiberiu, the President of the Jewish Community of Brasov.
The Triumph of Good over Evil
The Ambassador Dan Ben Eliezer was deeply touched all along Purim and said: "My wife and I are very happy to be here in Brasov, at the Synagogue, to celebrate Purim: the triumph of good over evil. Purim has been given a real dimension bringing together the past and the present. I congratulate the Jewish Community of Brasov who managed to preserve the Jewish customs and traditions. At the same time, this community plays an important role for culture development and contributes to the economic and social development of Brasov, being the first city in Romania to establish a twin relationship with a city from Israel.
Abrahamic Relationship
Father Stelian Manolache, who was invited to this event, though having a different religion, wanted to say a few touching words: "It is an honour for me to have the chance to speak about the Abrahamic relationship that exists between us. In Christian religion Abraham, the father of all people, is seen as real. May God let Abrahmic religions live long! Love and culture get people together. This is the reason for which I offer this book to the President of the Jewish Community of Brasov, Mr. Roth Tiberiu."
Both the wife of the Ambassador and soprano Felicia Filip received an impressive bunch of flowers and a young Jewish woman played Jewish songs at pan flute, a Romanian musical instrument. Both moments moved the audience. The representatives of the Jewish Community addressed the Ambassador the following words: "This is the place were we were accepted, so we settled down and lived our lives. This is why we call it home!"
