The Association of Numismatologists from Brasov and the Association of Philatelists from Brasov organized the Philatelic and Numismatic Antiques Fair at the Restaurant "Festival 39". The decoration theme of the restaurant focused on old photographers, cartophily and photography. The Antiques Fair is organized in this location three times a year. The date is chosen in such a way as to fit between the four quarterly international fairs taking place at ITC Brasov.
The Collectors in Brasov are Well-Ranked
"We are glad that the fair of the philatelists from Brasov takes place at Restaurant Festival 39 because the interior itself is a true art collection, ranging from old postcards to rare collection works. The Association from Brasov has more than 100 members, passionate collectors and very appreciated in their field. Brasov was ranked as the fifth city in Romania for philately and among the top ten for numismatology. Brasov occupies a good position in this field and participates in many exhibitions abroad. The last fair organized in Brasov gathered collectors from Bucharest, Sibiu and Fagaras. Usually, collectors coming from Romania's bordering countries come to the ITC fair," said Mr. Edmund Vass, member of the Association of Philatelists from Brasov.
The Passion of Being a Collector
At the last fair, collectors tried to add up rare items to their collections. They claim that this passion grows once you have made your first collection; then you want to obtain other items that would enhance your reputation.
"It's like a disease. You either have it or not. Or, I don't know, maybe it's something you inherit. If I may make a comparison about this passion, I would say that it's like jewellery for women or cars for men. It's basically the same thing for us. Some men have this passion and others have a passion for cartophily, numismatology or philately. Practically, once you became passionate about it, you start investing money and this is how you get a collection. You may be lucky to come across certain items which can increase your initial collection's value. The collector knows exactly what he wants and pursues what is missing from his collection. It's like a never-ending cycle," said Mr. Edmund Vass, talking about the passion of being a collector.
Organized Meetings
The collectors from Brasov meet at the County Library every Sunday between 10 A.M. and 12P.M. During these meetings they have debates related to their field, they share opinions, gather information and share of their experience from previous national and international fairs and exhibitions in which they participated.
