The County Council of Brasov, the County Centre for the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture of Brasov, the Sustainable Development Agency together with the Town Hall of Teliu and Axa Group organized ?The Agricultural and Traditional Organic Cuisine Fair? in Teliu, county of Brasov, on the occasion of Pentecost Day. The event gathered traditional and organic food producers, folk craftsmen and folk song and dance groups. The cornerstone of the event was one particular food stand which displayed snail meat dishes: snail goulash, snails in shell and sausages and forcemeat balls of snail meat mixed with beef and pork.
The snail message
?This year, the young locals involved actively and made a four-wheeled snail and a parody-map which symbolizes the rhythm of today investments. Through this map we wanted to send a message to the Government that takes action at a snail?s pace. Due to the fact that Teliu village is already famous for its production of snail meat, it was natural to have snail food stands to attract people interested in gastronomic tourism. For the pleasure of our guests, we have also organized on this occasion, a traditional artistic show with folk song and dance groups. Yet we did not leave aside the younger ones to whom we dedicated one evening,? said Mr. Vasile Serban, Mayor of Teliu village.
Gastronomic surprises
The official opening was done by the Mayor of Teliu village, Mr. Vasile Serban, who let the guests know about the surprises of that event: gastronomic delights, authentic folklore, dishes made after unique recipes and last, but not the least, snail dishes adjusted following French recipes.
In the Town Hall?s courtyard a traditional and organic food fair and a folk show were organized. The folk performers included the Folk Group ?Cetatuia? from Teliu?, the Folk Group ?Zold Pantlika? from Teliu and the Folk Group from Intorsura Buzaului. The Town Hall also dedicated one evening to the young people.?
A march of folk costumes
Tourists, guests and locals, all enjoyed the traditional and organic food and admired the parade of folk costumes. The young locals and people from the folk groups marched dressed in folk costumes through the village until they reached the stage location. The show was an open-air event. The agenda also included the performance of the Folk Group from Codlea, the Folk Group "Plaiurile Dumbrăvitei", the Folk Group ?Cetăţuia? from Teliu, the Folk Group ?Keknefelejcs? from Sacele, the Folk Group ?Hajnal Csillag? from Apata, the Group of Fiddlers "Ţara Bârsei", recital by Claudia Miritescu and other musical surprises.
