?Valer Literat? Museum

Founded in 1923 on the basis of the ethnographic collection of professor Valeriu Literat (1885-1972), the museum was enriched in time with valuable objects. Its personnel unfolds historical and ethnographic research activities in the area. The museum of mixed profile (history, ethnography and art), includes a wide variety of collections, such as: archaeology, weapons, numismatics, Romanian ancient books, documents, decorative art, folk pottery and clothes, tissues, habits, icons on glass, painted eggs, wood art, handicrafts, etc.
Medieval History
The exhibition of medieval history of Tara Fagarasului illustrates the events and monuments in the area: the Breaza fortress, fortified Saxon churches, the Cistercian monastery of Carta and the churches established by prince Brancoveanu.
The pottery craft hall shows the craft and the pottery art in central and south-east of Transylvania, made in Saxon and Hungarian centres. An important segment is the history of local crafts, mostly Romanian, with a long evolution (1597-1872), but also with great repercussions on the economic, social, political, cultural and religious life of Tara Fagarasului.
Weapons? Room
In the weapons' hall of the museum are displayed representative items for the evolution of military equipment between the 13th- 14 th centuries. The museum also hosts the sculpture gallery "Virgil Fulicea", which highlights the most important donations made by this great contemporary artist of Fagaras.
