A New State is Born
The president of Jewish Community of Brasov, Tiberiu Roth, recalled on this occasion: "On May 14 1948, in Tel Aviv, the chairman of the Jewish Agency proclaimed the constitution of the State of Israel, the first Jewish state born after 2000 years. Within the ceremony held at the Museum of Art in Tel Aviv, Ben-Gurion pronounced the words "We proclaim the birth of a Hebrew state in Palestine, to be called Israel". The crowd gathered at the museum saluted the announce with applauses and tears of joy. Ben-Gurion became the first prime minister of Israel.
Not even the Arab invasion detained the Jews from celebrating the birth of their new nation, especially after they knew the United States recognized the Jewish state. At midnight, the State of Israel was officially born while the British mandate in Palestine ended.
