Brasov County Council, the County Centre for Conservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture Brasov, along with Bunesti town hall organized several shows on April eight, when the whole world celebrates "The International Day of Romany People?. In Brasov county, such of shows were organized in the localities Budila, Zarnesti, Rupea, Fagaras and Tarlungeni.

"Overcome your Prejudices"

As Adrian Valusescu, director of the Centre, stated, ?at the cultural activities have participated the most talented representatives of Romany ethnicity, which had valued Romany folk, song and dance, which are special. Romany children have been able to express themselves in their native language, but also in Romanian.
Moreover, the motto of the International Romany Day was: "Overcome your prejudices ? know Romany people!"

Identity through Culture

The show was a true festival of Romany song and folk. Iosif Kiss, the mayor of Tarlungeni and host of the show, remarked that ?these actions are aimed at promoting social inclusion efforts, by expressing the identity through cultural acts. The Romany anthem has a specific and touching message. I think the most attractive element was the Gypsy wedding, just like in the fairytales, perfectly interpreted by Romany children?.
