Dumbravita is located in the western part of Barsa Land, at an altitude of 550 meters and links to the Fagaras Land through Persani gullet. It covers an area of 11,500 ha, of which half is occupied by forests. The two villages of the commune are among the oldest certified settlements in the county.
Protected Reserve
The village, which old name was ?Mosquitos?, counts nearly 5,000 inhabitants. The two Orthodox churches that have faced the hard-shells of the history impress by the interior decorations and the wall paintings. The customs, the traditions and the specificity of the households attract the tourists. But the real jewel of Dumbravita is the Lake, a special protected area also known as The Delta among the Mountains, that received in 2006 the status of protected reserve at European level.
Party on the Stadium
As mayor Zachiu Popa stated, Dumbravita Days is one of the most important feast of the commune, gathering all the inhabitants in a real parade of the popular clothes. ?In occasion of the third edition of the feast, we prepared an unforgettable program, including sport, concerts, humour, dance and a lot of folklore?, mayor Popa stated.
The mayor, wearing folkloric clothes and accompanied by his family, used to open the feast. An impressive procession starts in front of the town hall and arrive in the middle of the village, where everybody participates at the huge round dance. The whole procession moves then toward the local stadium, where is set-up an outdoor stage, ready to host all the folkloric bands invited to perform at Dumbravita.
