Augustin Commune (in Hungarian Agostonfalva, ?Augustin's Village?) is located in the northeast of Brasov County, 28 km away from Rupea, 6 km of Baraolt and 49 km away from Brasov; the commune is crossed by DC34 communal road connecting Ormenis and Racos, on the banks of river Olt, and covers a total area of 1217.65 ha.
Coins Thesaurus
Augustin is documentary confirmed since 1679, but archaeological vestiges push its date of birth long ago. A treasury of about 300 coins, dating back before 31 b.C. was discovered on the surroundings. In 1992, the village had 1,075 inhabitants.
The Swamp Jewel
At about 3 km of Augustin, towards Racos, at the confluence of two valleys, there is a fossiliferous point, declared natural reserve. Nearby, on an abandoned winding of river Olt, there is a little swamp where grows the white water-lily. Other points of attraction are the local orthodox church and a monastery, at only 2 km of commune Augustin.
Romanian Island
According to mayor Jozs Tokos, the Augustin community is very interesting in terms of both history and traditions. ?Commune Augustine is a Romanian island surrounded by localities which have a predominantly Hungarian population. The customs, the wonderful popular clothes, the song and traditional dances are highlighted during Augustin Days, a manifestation dedicated to all the generations of the commune, regardless the ethnic origin? mayor Tokos stated.
