Codlea town is located at the north-west of Tara Barsei, at the foot of Magurea Codlei. After Brasov, 15 km distant, Codlea is the most important locality of Tara Barsei thanks to its historical past, its politic, economic and cultural actual development. Its ?Town of flowers? honorific title is due to its more than a century tradition in gardening. Codlea Hummock is the weather forecaster for Tara Barsei area.
Stronghold Renewal
The historic area includes the Library, the Communitarian House, the ancient Town Hall and the Medieval Citadel. The stronghold has been renewed through a project based on natural methods and included the old lamp-shades, the green area and ancient armoury. The project continues with the renewal of the ancient buildings? facades of patrimonial value.
Sunny and Shadowy Parks
The two green areas Codlea boasts with are ?The Sunny Park? and ?The Shadowy Park?. The last one will be created trough a 200.000 euro environmental project. Other investments will be made at the Sporting Base, the Carnation Neighbourhood and the residential area.
Spontaneous Flora
Tourists coming to the Flower City can enjoy various forms of tourism: agro-tourism, tourism and leisure travel history, cultural and ecumenical tourism, silvoturism. They can also admire the flowers in parks or areas of spontaneous growth flora. Moreover, local people have strong knowledge about flora and medicinal plants, used to prepare teas and in the treatment of various diseases. Researchers in flora can come here and study the extremely generous range of species.

The mayor of Codlea, Alexandru Popa, says the summer in Codlea provides chromotherapy "Therefore, we had concern for putting Codlea in the spotlights as city of flowers, as it used to be known in Romania and abroad. There are a lot floristic investments in Codlea, in an attempt to combine recreation and culture, a mixture meant to provide people recreation? the mayor stated.
