The Citadel Reconditioning

The border tags of Brasov county, located in Predeal, Ucea, Bunesti, Fundata and Prejmer inform the tourists that the area they are about to cross is a European county. The announce is supported by the reality in the field: the ancient Citadel of Brasov, the historical monuments of the county, the roads and many other objectives have been rehabilitated and reinserted into the touring circuit. The county invested important amounts to renew the south-east tower of the Citadel, including the external lightning system, the towers and the fortifications under Tampa hill, Ecaterina Gate, the setting up of the museum and touring point in the Powder Tower, reparations on the Wavers Tower, White Tower, Graft Bastion and Drapers Tower.
European Financing
The County?s head, Aristotel Cancescu, considers that the walls of the medieval Citadel Brasov recovered their pristine greatness. ?The works started in 2002, with funds provided by the PHARE Program. The County Council won a project with the Program ?A beautiful Romania?, financed by the United Nations Program for Development. The works were finished in 2004; the last objective restored is the Wavers Bastion, to be covered by a glass roof supported by a metallic structure.
Ecaterina Gate
Ecaterina Gate is a significant historical objective for the medieval Brasov and was recently reinserted in the touring circuit. The renewal works included a little park, one of the most elegant in town, facilitating the access to the monument.
Olympia Tennis Court
Thanks to the renewal works ? the construction of the main court, the tribunes and the locker room ? the arena offer all the conditions to host international competitions. It also hosted the 12th edition of the Challenger tennis competition. At the end of the works, the building will conserve entirely the aspect is used to have at the end of the 19th century.
Light on Rasnov Citadel
Another investment meant to attract tourists is the fairylike lighting system of Rasnov Citadel. The external lighting plant was bought and assembled across the walls by the local authorities, with the support of the County Council. The citadel can now be seen from the national road, spectacularly emphasized by the searchlights.
Other historical monuments with patrimonial value of the county, such as the churches-citadels of Harman, Sanpetru and Cristian, will be rehabilitated as well.
