Codlea town is located at the north-west of Tara Barsei, at the foot of Magurea Codlei. After Brasov, 15 km distant, Codlea is the most important locality of Tara Barsei thanks to its historical past, its politic, economic and cultural actual development. Its ?Town of flowers? honorific title is due to its more than a century tradition in gardening.
Infrastructure Investments
According to the mayor Alexandru Popa, 2007 meant very important projects in infrastructure. ?Through a PHARE program, the town hall had a 10% participation in a one million euro investment in water supply and sewer plants. We managed to rehabilitate the streets and deflect the hard traffic, in order to protect the historic centre of the town? Popa stated.
Stronghold Renewal
The historic area includes the Library, the Communitarian House, the ancient Town Hall and the Medieval Citadel. The stronghold has been renewed through a project based on natural methods and included the old lamp-shades, the green area and ancient armoury. The usability was put underground to alleviate the area. The project continues with the renewal of the ancient buildings? facades of patrimonial value. Codlea?s citadel is the only medieval stronghold where the tower and the church are separated.
Sunny and Shadowy Parks
The two green areas Codlea boasts with are ?The Sunny Park? and ?The Shadowy Park?. The last one will be created trough a 200.000 euro environmental project. Other investments will be made at the Sporting Base, the Carnation Neighbourhood and the residential area. The infrastructural projects will continue for the use of both inhabitants and tourist.
