The Minister of Development, Public Works and Tenements, Laszlo Borbely, recently met the local authorities of Brasov to discuss the Urbanism and Territorial Management Law, the development strategy and the legislation concerning the metropolitan territory.
Water Plants and Pavements
The Ministry assigned to Brasov in 2007 3,9 million lei for the water plants and 4,7 million lei for the pavement of communal roads, the biggest amounts in the last 15 years.
The first projects advanced within the Regional Operational Program received financing in January 2008. ?Conceiving the development strategy of Romania was a challenge for us. Romania is a difficult country, because there are many big towns with political ambitions, wiling to set profitable partnerships? Borbely stated.
The Region 7 Centre
In order to accelerate the absorption process of the funds assigned to Romania by the European Commission, the Government assigned, by the end of November 2007, 110 million lei to finance 210 projects. According to the First Axe of the Regional Operational Program, the communes surrounding the eight development poles of the Region 7 Centre (including Brasov municipality) will be incorporated into the future metropolis.
Future Metropolis
The transformation process of Brasov municipality into Brasov metropolitan area has already started. ?We?ve been permanently in contact with the mayors of the surrounding communes and the county?s authorities to succeed our integration into this vast program? Mayor Scripcaru stated.
According to the Prefect Adriana Dontu, the fast absorption of the European funds is part of the long term (2007-2030) strategic concept of the Romania?s territorial development.
