Folklore, Art & Painting
In Tara Fagarasului there will also take place a winter festival. The participants of this festival will come from all around the country. The festival will be opened by a folkloric costume parade and will be continued by an art and painting exhibition. All the events will take place in the communitarian house Fagaras.
Farsang - the disguised Wedding
Farsang begins soon after the winter feasts, including rustic gatherings, popular dances etc. This feast opens the Lent and gathers the youth having already served or ready for the levy. Actually, it is a disguised wedding, a parody with pairs of disguised girls and boys marching in a wedding suite. The boys wear bride and women clothes.
Borica - the Magyars' Dance
One of the traditional costumes of the Magyar ethnics celebrating Christmas and the New Year is "The Down Carol"; young and elder wander the village at down singing carols. They are accompanied by a fiddler' band; the householders give them plum brandy, cake and cookies. People of the Magyar villages celebrate on the New Year's Day a specific costume called Borica. It was initially a frontier guard's dance, imitating the horse's training. The leader caries a whip and conducts the dancers' movements. The band also includes a buffoon, carrying a flag with his armors - bacon, garlic and onion - and fooling around.
