Evangelic Feast at Halchiu

Halchiu commune (Helsdorf in German and Holtoveny in Magyar) is part of the historical region of Barsa Land. Distant 16 km from Brasov and 11 km from Codlea, the commune included the villages Hachiu and Satu Nou.
The locality is famous for the important number of german natives, emigrated in Germany within the big exodus before 1989. This year has a peculiar significance for the emigrated German community, waited to return for the big feast.
Renaissance Paintings
The commune celebrates 200 years from the reconstruction of the local Evangelic Church. The monument, built in the 13th century and rebuilt two centuries later and in 1807, has splendidly conserved till today its remarkable decorations on the western portal and the polyptych with its paintings on Renaissance style (around 1530)
300 Germans on their Way back Home
According to mayor Ioan Garbacea, about 300 emigrated German natives already announced their intention to return home for the celebration. On this occasion, a religious service will be celebrated at the church and the Germans will party in the old fashion way, promoting the German habits and gastronomy. The atmosphere will be ensured by the local folkloric bands and brass band.
Rehabilitation Programs
The authorities of Halchiu unfolded several projects meant to rehabilitate the local infrastructure, such as the water plant on Satu Nou village ? a 400.000 euro investment, the rehabilitation of the communal road Satu Nou-Crizbav, the reconstruction of the local bridge. The authorities hope to finish all the programs before the event, designed to gather in Halchiu a lot of visitors and investors.
