The Prefect?s Institution of Brasov County celebrated on May 9 ?The Europe?s Day? in a very peculiar way. The event was hosted by Aro Palace Complex, where teachers, inspectors and pupils at the secondary school gathered to compete at the various contests about the EU and win the prizes and diplomas offered by prefect Aurelian Danu and sub-prefects Adriana Dontu and Szakal Andras.
Quiz on EU topics
Five teams of three pupils each participated at the contest about the European Union. The quiz included several questions on EU topics, such as: the EU?s date of constitution, how many euro banknotes and coins are they, which are the EU?s symbols, how many countries compose the EU, which are the founders states that signed the Treaty of Rome, what ?May 9? means, how many stars are they on the EU?s flag and what is their meaning. Other questions referred to the EU?s official languages, the EU?s motto and the author and the text the European anthem. 30 well-prepared pupils managed to surprise the exigent jury.
?Sweet Europe? culinary Contest
Nine teams of three pupils each contended at the contest, in front of a jury of the cooks of Aro Palace Restaurant, who counselled the pupils in preparing the meals. All the 45 pupils were declared winners, thanks to theirs creativity and manner of presentation.
Europe?s Map Puzzle
This was the most exciting contest?s section, gathering pupils at the elementary school, precisely the Schools no. 19 and 11. Each of the three teams had to puzzle the Europe?s map and the pupils of the School no.19 managed to finish it firsts.
About 130 persons ? pupils, teachers, inspectors, media and Prefect?s Institution representatives attended the event. 54 prizes were given, consisting in bags, books, cookies and diplomas; there also were chocolate consolation prizes.
