At the end of 2006, a Spanish delegation including the ambassador of Spain at Bucharest, Pablo Garcia-Berdoy, president of IBADESA, José Herrero and other Spanish officials, along with representatives of local administrations of Brasov and heads of health institutions of Brasov county set up the headstone of Teaching Hospital Brasov at Harman. Both Romanian and Spanish parts declared themselves happy with the model chosen to realise the hospital.
The biggest county?s Investment
Aristotel Cancescu, president of the County Council Brasov, briefly recorded the investment?s history: ?In 1990 we discussed a lot about the model to choose in approaching the county?s investments. We?ve adopted the Spanish model, because Spain had to face the same problems we had and managed to attract important amounts from the EU to develop tourism and rank the sixth in the world top of touring destinations. With a population of 30 million inhabitants, Spain is visited every year by 80 million tourists. By realising the bigger county?s investment at Harman, Spain will equal Germany in terms of foreign business involvement in Brasov county?.
The Local Councils Brasov and Harman and the County Council Brasov collaborate at the Spanish investment. The first hospital?s building stage will have a capacity of 415 beds, while the investment?s quantum will amount to 40 millions euros. The second stage will extend the hospital?s capacity to 800 beds.
Infrastructure Development
The contribution of Mihai Disor, the mayor of Harman, was a field which value tripled since two years ago, when it used to worth 6 million euros. The construction of the Teaching Hospital will minimize the gap between Brasov and Harman and will allow the development of the area?s infrastructure. Increasing the roads network, the sewer plant and the power plant became a local priority; both local and district administrations will assign funds to rehabilitate them.
High Level Spanish Technology
José Herrero, the IBADESA president, showed himself happy with the way the authorities of Brasov collaborated with the Spanish part. According to its statements, the hospital will have 13 surgery rooms, 22 consultation rooms, will allow 1.600 surgical interventions, 700 births, 30.000 X-ray treatments, 3.500 mammography scanning and a lot of medical services within a high-tech project of considerable importance.
