The Romania?s accession in the EU was simultaneously marked in all the country?s counties; the important cities organized impressive shows. Brasov celebrated the EU official flag?s hoisting, ceremony accompanied by singing the European anthem. The Guard of Honour and the military ceremonial were provided by the Mountain ranges 2nd Brigade ?Sarmisegetuza?. The military brass band of the Air Corps Academy ?Henri Coanda?, in full regimentals, marched in front of thousands of inhabitants.
Concerts and Fireworks
The event organized by the Prefecture Brasov, the County Council and the City Hall was attended as special guest by dr. Hartmut Frommer, the prefect of Nuremberg. The officialdom showed the exceptional importance of the event, as the result of the efforts made by all the country?s citizens. Various concerts of folkloric and modern music and the huge fireworks in Piata Sfatului celebrated the 00:00 h, when Romania has joined the European family.
Street Celebration
Thousand of inhabitants invaded Piata Sfatului of Brasov to party under the fireworks rain. They opened champagne bottles and sang frenetically. Everybody celebrated in the street till morning, hoping that 2007 will be a better year. All the city was dressed up, the historical buildings were magnificently illuminated, the streets were decorated with glowing ornaments; the ringers tolled the bells in all the important churches. Guests, hosts and inhabitants happily celebrated in the old centre of Brasov the accession in the EU.
European since long ago
Most of the EU officials that already knew Brasov since their first delegation reminded in their speeches that Brasov is since long ago a European town, so that the accession moment is just an official recognition of it. The Brasov?s potential already attracted countless foreign investors; a lot of business communities from Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan, Denmark and other developed countries maintain economic and financial collaboration with our town. The beauty of the surroundings, the local hospitality and the exceptional cultural potential are its main attractions.
