Teliu is one of the biggest communes of Brasov county, extended on a surface of 23 km , at the boundaries between Brasov and Covasna. The 4000 inhabitants (Romanians, Magyars and Gipsies) go in for farming, breeding and forestry.
Schools at EU standards
At the beginning of 2006, three of the four local schools were inaugurated and gathered at Teliu Vale all the persons involved in establishing those educational units at European standards. Pupils wearing popular cloths welcomed the guests by offering them the traditional bread and salt.
The Education - a Priority
The mayor Serban Vasile remembered the history of this investment: ?In 1996 was started the building of the school functioning in an old facility since 1925. The constructors worked day and night to erect the three schools at western standards, including the modern furniture and toilets?.
The president of the County Council Brasov, Aristotel Cancescu declared himself happy to see that the CC assignments are used to raise the standards of the Romanian education: ?It is a reassuring feeling to note that the education has finally become a national priority. The CC assigned 2 billions lei and the County Scholastic Inspectorate 6 billions lei for Teliu?s schools, amounts that don?t include the costs of the furniture?. The county?s general scholastic inspector Carmen Tanasescu considers the event as a special one, occurred within a cultural interference area, with educational process in Romanian and Magyar languages. The sub-prefect Andras Szakal mentioned that the schools of Teliu are to be considered as already in the European Union.
History and Nature
The area boasts not only a quality educational process but also wonderful traditions, ancient costumes and interesting locations, waiting for the appreciation of the other European citizen. ?Kraisburs? ?the citadel of the Teuton Knights, ?Pilistea? of them.
