The biggest Chess Contest

The Town Hall of the Town-Resort Predeal, CS Queen Gambit Ploiesti and the Young Managers? National Foundation recently organized the biggest chess contest ever in Romania. The competition has been hosted by the Sports Hall Predeal, newly restored, the same location of the National Chess Championship for Children and Juniors, that took place in April.

The most important Open

The event started on August 12 and was considered the most important Open tour of the Romanian chess?s history. 222 contestants from 17 countries attended the competition. ?We?ve proudly hosted 40 grand masters and 17 international masters from Bulgaria, France, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Holland, Russia, Serbia, Austria, Moldavia, Germany and Ukraine. I would like to thanks all the competitors for considering Predeal not only the Romanian sky capital, but also the chess?s one?, Mihail Vestea the mayor of Predeal stated.

1000 participants

According to the Romanian Chess Federation?s representative, Doru Ionescu, this Open is the most powerful chess tours of the south-eastern Europe. The organizers hope to reach 1000 participants within less than five years.
The Town Hall Predeal subsidized part of the accommodation?s costs and made serious investments in setting up the hall at the highest standards. The mayor also expressed his availability for a permanent collaboration with the Romanian Chess Federation.
