Identity and Citizenship

The Communitarian Department of the Persons? Evidence within the County Council is a newly established institution, constituted on January 1, 2005. It provides useful information for the Romanian and foreign citizens and the minors turning 14 entitled to carry an identity card.
By filling a simple application, the citizens can reacquire the Romanian citizenship; the minors are no longer obliged to get to the police to get their ID, for the department unfolds programs designed for the minors: ?There are two programs we?ve been working on, designed for the youths turning fourteen: ?Identity cards for gypsies? and ?I?m fourteen?, Gabriela Ungureanu, the institution?s manager stated.

Mobile Laboratory
In order to accomplish its projects, the institution was endowed with cars, mobile devices to take pictures, computers and specialized personnel. ?We move to the housing centres that take care of handicapped children turning fourteen. They look happy and interested when they are taken pictures. This manner of work saves money and time, especially when poor children are involved or those living far from our units?.

Births and Marriages
There are some compulsory approaches to be fulfilled at the registry by the Romanian citizens living abroad: the birth of a Romanian child abroad, the marriage and the decease create, according to the Romanian laws, the obligation to enlist the papers at the registry within the locality of the person?s last domicile.
The parents of a foreign child born in Romania are required to register the birth in the country of issue as well, according to the working laws ratifying the interstate agreements.

Citizenship Law
The Communitarian Department of the Persons? Evidence also issues citizenship certificates when people go to study or to work abroad, by filling a simple application.
The citizens who have left the country before 1989 can return in Romania to clarify their statute according to the citizenship Law, recently modified: those having lost the Romanian citizenship against their own will can get it back by simply requesting it.
