The Teutonic Hallmark

Ghimbav is a town located at the south-eastern Transylvania, bordered by Massif Postavaru, Codlea Hummock and Cristianul Mare Pick. The locality has good connections with the most important touring destinations in the county: the town Brasov, Poiana Brasov resort, Postavaru and Piatra Mare Mountains, the resort Predeal, the fortress of Rasnov, the Town Zarnesti, at the foot of Piatra Craiului. The town? origin is related to the 14 years? presence of the Teutonic Knights and the German colonisation accomplished during the same period.

The Willows? River
The German name of the town ?Veidenbach? (the willows? river) has nothing in common with the Romanian one, given by the river crossing the town ? Ghimbasel. Its springs are in Bucegi Massif; the mountain has given the name to the water, which baptised the town. The 5000 inhabitants have a peculiar way to conserve the ancestral folkloric cloths, the German customs and traditions, the architecture of the ancient rustic houses.
A peasant citadel, whose origins are unknown, has been renewed in 1789.

Ghimbav? Days
It seems like the Teutonic Knights have hallmarked in some way the local mentality, transmitting the respect for the historic patrimony. The evangelic church and the orthodox one, dedicated to The Trinity are today architectural monuments.
The most important occasion to socialize and rejoice is ?Ghimbav? Days?, a feast celebrated on the day of the community?s spiritual patron, Saint Peter. This year, the town hall and the local council organized an impressive show: popular German and Romanian music and dances, cross, football games and other contests, which attracted a large audience.

Allowances for Investors
According to the mayor of Ghimbav, Dorel Toma, the town had a continue evolution and attracted many investors in various fields such as commerce, wood and paper processing, helicopter constructions, textiles, heating plants, auto show-rooms, Metro.
The local authorities ensure a large number of facilities to the investor willing to start business in the area: tax allowances and paper work easement, depending on the investment?s extension.
