The town-resort Predeal is famous in Romania and abroad for hosting important winter contest. Although the white season draws to an end, the weather and the abundant snow allowed in March the organization of the International Contest F.I.S. ? Snowboard and the Ski Monitors Cup.
Mihai Veştea, the mayor of Predeal, told us that only this year the Town hall, the Local Council Predeal, the Touring Information Centre Predeal and SC Travel Concept SRL, specialized in organising this kind of competition, organized 15 contests, in collaboration with the Ski Romanian Federation and various state departments.
The Ski Monitoring Cup
The contest arrived at the seventh edition, becoming a tradition already. For the trophy fought the monitors from Sinaia, Buşteni, Azuga, Predeal, Braşov and Râşnov. 104 competitors attended the contest initiated at ,,Clăbucet Arrival? slope and organized by ?2 Extremes? Ski School, SC Pavcrib SRL, The Ski Schools? National Association, SC Travel Concept SRL and the Town Hall Predeal.
The Octogenarians? Contest
Professor Liviu Predeleanu, although retired, is the soul of those competitions: ?A remarkable think is the participation at the contest of 70 years old competitors. The competition?s delight was Costică Vălean, 78 years old, from Râşnov; the octogenarian was in a spectacular shape and bravely fought to conquer The Monitor of the year Trophy. He attended the Olympic Games of 1948, 1952 and 1956, scoring a great performance at the ski fond trial?. But the man who definitely aroused everybody?s admiration was an 86 years old competitor.
A Resort to revisit
The International Contest F.I.S. ? Snowboard attracted contestants from several countries: 20 Ukrainians, 4 Greeks, 1 Czech and 15 competitors from Romania. They competed at two trials ? giant slalom and boarder cross on ?Clăbucet Arrival? Slope. ?We try to have a better quality every year and increase the unfolding conditions at European standards. We also made efforts to improve the accommodation conditions. Every contest is an opportunity for us to promote the traditional Romanian cuisine and our folkloric values. The tourists who visit our resort will return for sure?, mayor Veştea stated.
