The artist Doina Nistor brings a genuine product on the market "Romanian traditional puppets", made as they used to back in the old days in countryside houses, from material wastes, with maize grains or sawdust filling. The artist takes the puppet from those times and imprints it with a contemporary image. It is expressive, sends messages, it is friendly and has a serene face. Each puppet is unique, finger sized, and also puppets on wooden spoons.
The puppet look
"I am doing my very best for each puppet to be as expressive as possible. Diversity matters a lot to me. I am not following a pattern, everything is handmade on a rough estimate. We are also different, so their faces differ as well. When you see them altogether, you can spot the difference. The difference between the former puppet and the contemporary one is given by the face look and by the eyes. I am really interested in the look and I spend a lot of time drawing the eyes. I like it when the look tells something. All my puppets deliver emotion." declared Doina Nistor.
Puppets nostalgics
Speaking to the puppet artist we have found out that many people buy them because they make them think about the place where they were born and they are still in love with the popular costumes. This is the reason for which they buy a Romanian traditional puppet -because they have one purpose, they want it in their house, it reminds them of their childhood and the Romanian village. The puppets created by Doina Nistor are not toys, they carry emotion, memories and nostalgia within themselves. They make people think about their childhood and they are contemporary at the same time.
Conviction and determination
By making the Romanian traditional puppets, Doina Nistor sends the following message: "I want to show who we are and how we are. What matters is your conviction in what you do and when you go beyond your limits. You lift yourself up. It is not a hobby, it is determination. I succeeded to send this message with my puppets wearing the traditional costumes and they carry the emotional charge of these lands. I was invited to attend together with my puppets various official events, including embassy openings. This is how I succeeded to present a Romanian genuine product that replaced one thousand words."
