In Feldioara commune, Brasov County, within Cultural Objectives, Traditions and Customs in Feldioara Commune project, the ‘Winter Spirit’ Christmas Festival is organized. The festival reached its 7th edition and focuses on lighting the Christmas tree, presenting the carol singer groups and the winter customs. The event is developed by City Hall of Feldioara supported by the Traditional Culture Service from Brasov.
‘The City Hall and the Local Council of Feldioara supports the cultural activities promoting the local customs and traditions. Every year, at the ‘Winter Spirit’ Festival we promote young talents and bring forward the local traditional clothing that is so beautiful and diversified. The event is a true parade of traditional clothes, of songs, dancing and cheerfulness. Of course, the central piece is the decoration of the Christmas tree, around which the entire event takes place. The students from Petru Rares High School in the locality participate by presenting an exceptional artistic program. All children receive Christmas presents’, told us Mr. Sorin Taus, mayor of Feldioara commune.
The ‘Winter Spirit’ Festival emphasizes the winter customs of carol singers from Tara Barsei region. The popular tradition of the ethnic folkloric area consecrated carol as a ritual small part within a ceremony practiced by the young boys group on Christmas Eve. ‘Those who participate in this festival have as a central piece the Christmas tree, and also the show made by the Christmas carols. The show takes place at the Feldioara Cultural Centre’, told us Mr. Adrian Vălușescu, head of Traditional Culture Service of Brasov, as organizer.
The Festival, a moment of joy
This event aims at remembering the winter holidays period that we used to spend in the country side. ‘Winter Spirit’ brings in Feldioara the sons of the village, most of them being part of the Transylvanian Saxons community who moved to Germany, who are returning home especially to spend the Christmas holidays in their native regions. For everyone, locals, guests and tourists, the festival is a moment of joy and celebration.
