70th Anniversary of the Liberation - Auschwitz-Birkenau

On January 27th 2015 the Jewish Community of Brasov, the Federation of the Jewish Communities of Romania and the Zionist Association of Romania commemorated the International Holocaust Day at the Community Centre of Brasov, the Beit Israel Synagogue, on 29 Poarta Schei Street. Representatives of the cults in Brasov, prominent figures of the local cultural life, high school and university students participated in this event. People lit candles at the monument "The Holocaust Memorial", built especially by the Jews from Brasov in memory of those killed in the Nazi camps.

70 Years after Liberation of the Death Camps

"Today we mark the 70th commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz Nazi death camp and I invite you to lit candles at the monument "the Holocaust Memorial". I also invite you to sign in the Holocaust Victims Remembrance book. We will not lay flowers because no flowers were ever in Auschwitz. We lit the torches from the entrance, praying for all those who perished!" said Mr. Tiberiu Roth, Chairman of the Jewish Community of Brasov.

Bad things do not hurt

Always tears in his eyes, with his voice chocked and trembling, the Chairman of the Jewish Community of Brasov, claimed that no one intervened to stop those atrocious crimes, as bombing of the railways with trains carrying the deportees to Auschwitz could be done. "The day of January 27th 1945 is the day of liberation for the prisoners in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp and marks the commemoration at international level of Holocaust victims. Bad things do not hurt and there is a plan to strike again," concluded Mr. Tiberiu Roth.

Teaching about Holocaust

According to the Resolution 60/7 from 2005 of the United Nations General Assembly, the states are encouraged to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and develop educational programs on the Holocaust topic. Romania will take over, starting with 2016, the Presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), as a result of a decision taken by consensus by the member states on the occasion of the plenary meeting of the Organization which was organized in Manchester, UK, in December 2014.
