Genuine Folklore in Dumbravita
|
|
In Dumbravita Town, Brasov County, the old customs and traditions have been passed on from generation to generation up to this day. That is the reason why today, in this town, a series of events are being organised in order to promote the genuine folklore, with the remarkable contribution of the Folk Dance and Music Group "Plaiurile Dumbravitei" with performances both in Romania and abroad. The most important local event is ?Zilele Dumbravitei? (The Days of Dumbravita) which gathers several generations of people at one folklore festival with traditional costumes parade, folk music, dance and good cheer. The holidays at the end of the year bring to the fore the dower chest, the gathering, the carols and the cultural manifestations, such as ?Raising of the Christmas Tree?.
Ethno-folkloric Collaborations
?We are glad that our town owns a rich and diversified folkloric heritage. We are having the local young people of all ages involved in each cultural event, from the kindergarten children to the older ones. I?m glad that these children cherish our cultural heritage and they are proud of the local traditional folk costumes. Every time we organise an event, the young people carefully prepare their traditional outfits, rehearse, and then perform on stage honourably wearing this heritage. Apart from the folk group ?Plaiurile Dumbravitei?, we also have very good collaborations with other groups in the country. We recently had as guests the Folk Dance and Music Group Avrig from Sibiu, who transmits the joy of celebration and of being a Romanian. The City Hall supports all the events of the community and carries out projects promoting the cultural inheritance of the area?, said Mr. Zachiu Popa, Mayor of Dumbravita.
A good farmer makes a good farm
Apart from the traditional clothing and dance, the music adds value to the folklore from Tara Barsei. Folk singers are invited to perform in cultural events, to bring joy and comfort to the locals. For example, artists like Cristian Pomohaci, Marioara Marinca and Viorica Cerbu performed in the festival ?Zilele Dumbravitei?, promoting the Transylvanian music.
The inhabitants of Dumbravita are generous people and I honestly believe that a good farmer makes a good farm and also agree with the saying ?Being a great man is a wonderful thing, while being a gentleman happens by accident.?
Certificates of Excellence
?We are making ethno-folkloric research to discover the genuine folklore, which we further apply in the composition of the group?s folk dance. We award certificates of excellence to the folk dance and music groups who accept our invitation and, at our turn, we receive certificates of merit for our group?s performance. We are glad that this year we were awarded certificates by the City Hall, and also by the authorities in the country and abroad. We invite you to spend a memorable holiday in Dumbravita town, a piece of heaven blessed by God?, explained Mrs. Maria Guseila and Mr. Gheorghe Guseila, instructors of the Folk Dance and Music Group ?Plaiurile Dumbrăviţei?.
