St. Bartholomew`s Church, built around 1200, was the first parochial church from Brasov and it is the oldest religious architectural monument of the city. After a long period of time, this church was included into the tourist circuit and those who are interested to see this historical monument can visit it and find out information about the history of the building. Visitors can admire the church both from the outside and the inside, its mural paintings, the cupped baptistery font carved in sandstone, the Anatolian carpets and the post-medieval objects. The prospect of the old pipe organ (1790), the altar (1791), the suspended pulpit, (18th century), the speaker?s tribune and a bell dating back to 1832, are still preserved nowadays.
The Church Brochure
This autumn, the Organization of the Transylvanian Saxons from Brasov established in Germany and the Evangelical Church made a cultural brochure, which includes research about Transylvania and the history of St. Bartholomew`s Church from Brasov. This church is the only one whose titular saint is St. Bartholomew, celebrated on August 24th, an event in which 300 Transylvanian Saxons from Germany participated. We have been thinking for a long time to include this church in the tourist circuit, due to the fact that the tourists were not able to visit this monument, although there was a lot of interest in the matter. We managed to publish a brochure, to which the Tourist Development Association of Brasov also contributed, and we are glad to say that all the information expected by the tourists can be found here?, said Mr. Christian Macedonschi, local councillor, from the German Democratic Forum.
Concerts and Elevated Music
?People are interested in this church. The brochure provides historical information, and the pictures are very relevant. We want to have as many visitors as possible who are familiar with our history with the fact that the Old Town of Brasov or Bartholomew used to be a suburb inhabited by the Transylvanian Saxon peasants. I also want to let tourists know that we have been organising, every Sunday, for three years now, summer concerts of elevated music, in which the children choir of the church and famous national and international symphony orchestras have participated. Unfortunately, we still need funds in order to accomplish everything we have in mind?, said the curator of St. Bartholomew`s Church.
