The Evangelical Church C.A. of Romania (www.evang.ro) announced the opening of the tourist season for visiting fortified churches and the continuation of the program "Discover the Heart of Transylvania" addressed to both Romanian and foreign tourists. The purpose of this tourist project is to promote the fortified churches. During the tourist season 2013, 250,000 tourists have visited 200 fortified Transylvanian Saxon churches, churches and medieval churches. The most visited were the Black Church of Brasov, the church in Sighisoara and the fortified churches in Prejmer, Harman, Viscri, Biertan, Cristian, Cisnadioara, Cisnadie, Medias, Carta, Bistrita and Sebes.
Holiday Pass
The new tourist season opened on Easter Day and this year the promotion activity will focus on less known tourist attractions: the medieval church of Reghin (Mures County), the fortified churches of Curciu, Axente Sever, Atel (Sibiu County) or Cincu and Cincsor (Brasov County). Within the project edition in 2014, the Kirchenburgenpass has been released, a holiday pass allowing tourists to visit certain churches and castles and enter the Central Museum of the Evangelical Church C.A., the Dialogue and Cultural Centre Friedrich Teutsch. The holders of such pass will receive the status of VIP visitors of 27 tourist attractions in exchange of a fee of 50.00 lei. They can also visit the fortified churches of Cristian and Biertan, the Cistercian monastery of Carta and the Black Church of Brasov.
Kirchenburgenpass is valid from April 20th to October 31st 2014.
The Transylvanian Saxon Customs` Week
The visitor will enjoy over one hundred events (organ concerns and traditional meals) among which we mention: the "Traditional Customs` Week" and the cycling tour "Bike&Like" to the fortified churches in Transylvania. People can also discover Transylvanian Saxon traditions, some of them being on the verge of disappearing, in the period June 22nd ? 29th. Ten events dedicated to Transylvanian Saxon folk customs will take place in several town in the counties of Sibiu, Brasov and Mures for one week.
The Cycling Tour to Churches
NO STRESS Bike&Like cycling tour to fortified churches is a new way to promote heritage, as well as ecological tourism. It has been organized in collaboration with "No stress triathlon" team who will lead cyclists and their supporters through interesting places around Sibiu for three days (July 11th-13th 2014). The tour premier is under the patronage of the ambassador of the fortified churches, Mr Cristian Topescu and will combine sports competition with visiting and discovering local fortified churches.
